FAQs

Where do voice coaching sessions take place?

My studio is based in Chicago, IL but the majority of my teaching takes place virtually via Zoom which means I can teach you wherever you are in the world! I have been teaching virtually long before we ever had to, and being someone who has also been coached online, I can assure you that it is just as great of an experience as being coached in person, if not better! One of my respected peers even wrote a blog about the benefits of virtual coaching HERE.

Is there any particular equipment that I need for virtual voice coaching sessions?

All you really need is a good internet connection and a laptop or desktop computer with a web camera. Unfortunately I cannot conduct voice sessions on a tablet or mobile phone because working via Zoom requires audio settings that are only available on laptops or desktops and not on mobile phones or tablets.

What is the cost of voice coaching at Soulstream Music Studio?

Your first session (75 minute virtual, Sound Appraisal session) is $150 USD.

If after that consultation we’ve determined that my program is a good fit for you and you want to move forward with your development, I offer the following packages:

For 60 min sessions:

4 session package for $360 USD

8 session package for $720 USD

12 session package for $1080 USD

For 30 minute sessions:

4 session package for $180

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! You may split your payments for session packages of 8 or more.
(i.e. for an 8 session package you would split the amount into two payments of $360 over two months)

What makes this particular voice coaching program special?

In my experience through the years, there has been a common thread between most people who take vocal lessons…and that thread is the desire to know, love and accept your own voice. I’ve found that many folks struggle with varying levels of insecurity about their singing voice be it seasoned professionals to passionate novices. Our mainstream culture around singing is often driven by toxic competition and comparison. Just like the fashion industry, we often have “standards of beauty” around singing that are very narrow, rigid and “one-note” (no pun intended.); lacking in diversity of sounds and abilities.

But the truth is, grounding yourself in the knowledge of your voice…your most unique sound, will always lead to more satisfaction and success, whatever that looks like for you. When your distinctive and beautiful sound comes through, it is transformative not only to you but the people who are lucky enough to hear you! I teach people to find themselves in their voice and to enjoy the gift of expressing themselves and the empowerment it brings to their lives.

If that sounds like something deeper than just learning some vocal exercises and how to use your diaphragm…it is! But it’s nothing mystical or weird, it’s just about working with the whole person, not just their voice alone. Your voice is a part of you and can even be an extension of you as a person. The more connected you are to your voice and your incomparable sound, the more impactful your singing is for you and for the audiences that hear you!

What vocal technique/methodology do you teach?

Utilizing the principles of Somatic Voicework, the LoVetri Method ™️ which I am certified in, we will work together in a holistic way to find your most functional vocal production which will allow you to gain range, strength, clarity and command of your voice.  Moreover, for the aspiring and/or emerging musical artist we’ll work to align your coaching to the aspirations of your career development and help you to make an impact through your unique artistry.

Do you work with singers who have voice injuries or pathology?
(e.g. polyps, nodules, cysts…etc;)

The short answer is…yes. But I mainly do this in conjunction with or following the guidance of a health care professional such as a laryngologist and/or speech language pathologist (SLP). Singing is a physical activity and if you’re someone who uses your voice a lot, whether your a professional, semi-professional or novice, the health of of your voice is of great importance. Having a team of professionals who can support the wellness of your voice makes a significant difference in your vocal performance and self-satisfaction.

I’m happy to have worked with Dr. Steven Sims of the Chicago Institute for Voice Care who has seen many of my clients and has advised in their vocal care their through the years. You can learn more about Dr. Sims and the Chicago Institute for Voice Care HERE and HERE.
